College Physics: Supplemental Resources
ACCESS DOESN’T END WITH THE BOOK.
OpenStax College has compiled additional resources for both faculty and students, from online homework tools and interactive study guides, to faculty-only resources that coincide with Physics.
WebAssign is an independent online homework and assessment solution first launched by the physics department at North Carolina State University in 1997. Today, WebAssign reaches over a million students each year. WebAssign empowers faculty to deliver fully customizable assignments and high quality content to their students in an interactive online environment. WebAssign supports College Physics with over 2000 algorithmically-generated problems, most with problem-specific feedback, detailed solutions, and stepped-out tutorial support. Instructors can supplement any WebAssign course with a wide variety of additional assessment content developed, tested, and proven by experts in physics education research to support both the problem-solving and conceptual understanding needs of the course.
- Expert TA
Expert TA is committed to building a dynamic online homework grading software for Introductory physics classes with a comprehensive library of original content to supplement a range of texts. Expert TA provides an integrated suite that combines online homework and tutorial modes to enhance student-learning outcomes and meet physics instructors’ assessment needs. Expert TA is used by universities, community colleges, and high schools.
- Sapling Learning
Created and supported by educators, Sapling Learning online homework drives student success with one-on-one educator support and time-saving tools. Sapling Learning provides physics homework for algebra and calculus based physics courses, as well as conceptual physics. Question styles include numeric and equation based questions, and conceptual understanding is measured using sorting, labeling, ranking, multiple choice, and multiple select answer types. The Sapling Learning physics product is customized to instructors' curriculum to cover every topic taught ranging from friction to refraction.
- LON-CAPA (local installation)
LON-CAPA is an open-source freeware learning content management and assessment system originally developed at Michigan State University. The system is built around the idea of sharing content between educators, and currently over half a million content objects are available in the shared pool, among those over 100,000 physics resources. This pool now includes almost 2,000 problems from OpenStax Physics, which can be used individually or starting with a complete course template. LON-CAPA can be installed locally at institutions at no cost - there are no licensing or content pool membership fees.
- LON-CAPA (hosted version)
For institutions that do not want to install or maintain their own LON-CAPA server, CourseWeaver Corporation offers LON-CAPA hosting and support services. Different options exist, where CourseWeaver helps maintain your local server, or where the institution or the learners pay for hosted service. In either scenario, educators have full access to the content pool including OpenStax Physics, as well as full access to LON-CAPA’s course management and advanced assessment capabilities.
- Student Solution Manual
The Student Solution Manual is a free download for students. The SSM has full stepped out solutions for every third conceptual question and every sixth problem. Answers to all odd problems will be displayed in the online version when the student clicks the “Answer” link under an odd problem.
